Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

I'm using Evolution 2.9.91-0ubuntu1 on Feisty and have a single IMAP mailbox set up. Every time I launch Evolution it starts in offline mode and I have to manually hit the icon to switch to online mode.

I'm not using NetworkManager. Is Evolution setting modes based on NetworkManager feedback or is this just a plain bug?

Thank you for your bug. What do you mean when you write that you are not using NetworkManager? Is it installed? Is it running? That's probably a duplicate from bug #82335

NetworkManager is not installed right now because my wired is managed by hand and wireless by wifi-radar (basically same as by hand)

marking unconfirmed then, I don't have that problem on my desktop without network-manager installed, probably an upstream bug and to forward by somebody getting the problem

Please mark as duplicate of aforementioned bug -- I did indeed have networkmanager installed just I wasn't using it :D

I can confirm this bug. Evolutions starts offline, even when I turn off the Network Manager in startup options.

 Evolution opens in offline mode with an internet connection established through ppp for a GSM 3rd generation modem (mobile internet).

This can be very SERIOUS FOR BUSINESS USERS because it prevents email from working as expected. This is relevant for laptops with GSM 3G mobile intenet, that are becoming common here in Sweden and probably also elsewhere in Europe. NOT BEING ABLE TO SEND EMAIL IS INDEED VERY BAD, so the importance level should be increased.

This does not happen through direct cable nor Wi-Fi wireless connections.
(perhaps I should be reporting this on the other bug)
