Binary package hint: rhythmbox

If you try to connect to an internet radio station that is timing rhythmbox can sometimes get stuck and just hangs. I have to restart to try again.

Thank you for your bug. What version of Ubuntu and rhythmbox do you use? Could you provide an example of URI to trigger that problem?

The current version on feisty is 0.9.7.90, could you try with it? Using that radio doesn't hang rhythmbox on my feisty desktop. Does it hang the playing action on the whole interface for you? Could you get a backtrace (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace) from rhyhtmbox when it's hanging?

The URL is not important, Rhythmbox hangs all the time regardless of radio station.

I followed the Backtrace instructions. I listened to music until it stopped playing and the interface stopped drawing. I then killed the application.

Version 0.9.8 was uploaded to Feisty now. Could you try with it - maybe also add debug log rhythmbox -d should get you one.

I had a similar problem using the new jamendo plugin.
I am using rhythmbox compiled from source (9.8) on a ubuntu edgy system.
Maybe that was also caused by the size of the jamendo archive. I do have a 50 MB crash file here. don't know if uploading that would help.

Max, does it hang or crash for you. Could you attach the backtrace only and not the crash file?

Sebastien,

Sorry, i don't have a backtrace and it looks like i can't reproduce the crash either. Oh yeah - and it was a crash. Can i generate a backtrace out of the crash file?
Since i can't reproduce the bug i won't be able to get a backtrace otherwise. Sorry.

FYI, it's still happening to me but I haven't had chance to test with the
new version.

Updates to follow.

The crash file has a backtrace, you can use apport-retrace to update it after installing debug packages for example

retraced the crash to get a meaningfull backtrace but i did not manage to get all symbols for the ThreadSt.
I also opened a bug upstream because i think it's a general problem. Upstream Bug is here:

Will attach Stacktraces here as well.

It might be, I am not sure.

The radio station that ALWAYS causes problems is anything from www.hbr1.com.

Every 30 minutes or so there is an interlude/advert, but (I am guessing) with a different codec from the actual music.

The best way to reproduce is to remove any non-free codec plugins and listen to any hbr1 radio station until it crashes.

I experience the same problem. After a while listening to music (mmsh://dms-cl-021.skypro-media.net/drs3?MSWMExt=.asf) rhythmbox stops playing.
When I try to press the play button again rhythmbox freezes and I have to kill it.

See the debug output in the attached file. I'm using rhythmbox 0.10.0 under ubuntu feisty.

same general issue. i can listen to different stations, add new stations, and all will be fine. then, usually when switching to a new station, it will hang on connect, after which rhythmbox becomes unresponsive. it might be worth mentioning that to find new streams i've been using Firefox set to open m3u via rhythmbox, then i manually switch to rhythmbox and change the station. again, most of the time that works OK. (no logs or traces, sorry)

Rhythmbox 0.10.0
Ubuntu (Feisty Fawn) 7.04

Same problem as above. The codec doesn't seem to be the root of this problem. I can connect to the same station using AAC+ or mp3. Rhythmbox hangs when unable to connect in the first place or after some time.

This problem also happens when there are connection problems while playing a stream (on gutsy).
