Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

Ubuntu 6.10.

System→Administration→Software Properties. When you have chosen mirror different from main server, and you add some type of update, a new line in /etc/apt/sources.list does not respect chosen mirror, and connects to main server. Switching "Download from:" to main server and back to mirror solves the problem.

How to reproduce:
1. Start System Properties.
2. Choose "Download from" to some local-country mirror, not main server.
3. Switch to Internet Updates tab, and add some type of update (ie. proposed updates, or backports).
4. Look to /etc/apt/sources.list. The lastly added update type is downloading from archive.ubuntu.com, whilst all previous are downloading from [country-code].archive.ubuntu.com.

How to work-around the bug:
5. Switch "Download from" to main server, and back to local mirror.
6. Look to /etc/apt/sources.list. The lastly added update type is finally downloading from [country-code].archive.ubuntu.com.

Happens everytime.

For all kind of updates? We enforce the security.ubuntu.com mirror for security updates. For all other updates it should be fine.

Yes, this issue is valid for all kind of updates. Furthermore, if it your internal policy to enforce security.ubuntu.com for security updates, there should be filed another bug:

1. Use a local mirror server, do not use security updates.
2. Check "security updates". It downloads from security.ubuntu.com.
3. Switch to main server. Switch again to local mirror.
4. Security updates are now downloaded from [country-code].archive.ubuntu.com ...

Fixed in my local branch. Waiting for mvo to merge and upload.

As long as the user has not changed the forced server of the corresponding repository we will always keep it and set it correctly for newly added sources.

fix for this bug is working in 7.10. But there is still some problem with enforcing security.ubuntu.com, I think it's set to [country-code].archive.ubuntu.com after installaton by default... after changing manually for the first time, it's ok - on security.ubuntu.com...
