Bug Description
Binary package hint: linux-image-
I'm not sure if this is an issue with upstart or the Linux kernel, but one of my computers has Hyper-Threading (P4C), and in its entire history using Edgy, I've been able to boot using HT enabled a total of like 5 times out of several dozen attempts. At this point, using 2.6.17-11, I can't even boot the damn thing anymore. I do recall that before using upstart, it booted a lot more frequently than it is now, however...
On a related note, when I disable HT, Ubuntu is able to boot, but my sound card doesn't seem to work when I do that (ALSA can't load the sound card or something, and using /dev/dsp doesn't work either). The on-board sound card doesn't work either, but I might have disabled that via the BIOS, so that might be unrelated.
I do recall seeing something about *_smp.c being at fault in several of the failed attempts, so it might even be a problem beyond just simply using HT.
Related hardware specs:
* Motherboard: abit IC7-G - http://
* Processor: Intel Pentium 4 skt 478, 2.8 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, Hyper-Threading
* Memory: 2x DDR 400 512 MB
* Audio: Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 (PCI)
Nevermind, I changed a BIOS setting, and now it finally booted. However, the sound card still isn't being detected. If I can't fix that, I'll see what I can do about filing a bug for it.
