Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Fresh install of Feisty (daily-live of 14/02/2007).

I was installing some dev-packages to build another, and while they were configuring, the panel disappeared and appeared.

I write here the packages were installed, as I'm not sure which one could cause that:

The following NEW packages will be installed:
  apache apache-common apache2-utils autotools-dev cdbs debhelper
  docbook-xsl docbook-xsl-doc docbook2x html2text imagemagick libapr1
  libaprutil1 libpcre3 libpq5 libxml-namespacesupport-perl
  libxml-sax-expat-perl libxml-sax-perl python-all python-all-dev
  python-dev python2.4 python2.4-dev python2.4-minimal python2.5-dev

Thanks for your bug report. The crash looks like a memory corruption. Could you try to get a valgrind log for it? (you can follow the instructions from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valgrind for that)

Changed in gnome-panel:
assignee: nobody → desktop-bugs
importance: Undecided → Medium
status: Unconfirmed → Needs Info

Hi Sebastien

I've tried to restart gnome-panel with valgring, but I can't. If I just start it, it complains because there is another panel running.

If I kill the other one, it restarts at the moment.

If I do:
emilio@kiko:~$ killall gnome-panel && valgrind -v --tool=memcheck --leak-check=full --num-callers=12 --log-file=valgrind.log gnome-panel

It doesn't work.

If you could tell me how to start gnome-panel with valgrind, I'll try to reproduce the crash.

Thanks
Emilio

you can run "gnome-session-remove gnome-panel" to stop it and then run it with valgrind

Why the hell now gnome-panel does not crash, if it has crashed some times this evening? Now that I'm running it with valgrind... :(

I'll try it a little more :)

marking duplicate from bug #85776, a valgrind log would still be useful
