Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Users have to manually install dictionary extensions to make firefox spell-check in their language, eventhough dictionaries are already installed and used with openoffice, gaim, evolution, etc.

Steps to reproduce:

 1. Install any language other than English.
 2. Open up firefox.
 3. Go to the bug-report
 4. Click on the add-comment link at the bottom
 5. Right click on the text-area and look at the languages sub-menu
 6. Where is the dictionary for the current locale?

Solution:

 1. The dictionary-extensions, when available, should be made part of the mozilla-locales packages, so they get installed by default.
 2. At the same place where firefox checks for the current session locale and decides which language pack to use (they are extensions as well), it should set the default dictionary to the current language. (if available, otherwise fall back on english)

if you are on gnome, System->Administration->Language Support should allow you to add your language, which should install dictionary as well. Can you confirm that this works even without dictionary extension?

Because the bug is obvious. It does not require extra info, it requires 10 seconds of effort to confirm it for yourself.

And yes, Firefox is completely localized.

Except the spellchecking-dictionaries.

You can confirm this for yourself.
OR you can look in synaptic "hey, there are no packages for spell-checking-support for firefox"

I've put the status back on Unconfirmed.
Somebody please confirm and/or package/fix it.

I've installed an extra language. But its the same. Off course.
As an experiment I installed German localisation.

Firefox is in German now. Open Office is in German now. I can spell check in German using Open Office.

But the spell checker in Firefox is still only English.

Please try for yourself.
Please.
I can repeat and repeat this over and over.
And try all kinds of trivial non-related stuff.

But its a bug.
And it seems you won't believe me until you take the effort to try for yourself.

So please.
TRY.

Thats weird. I does work if I install the myspell-packages manually.

Yet they weren't installed by default, except for the English one.
So this is a language-support/installer bug (one way or another) not a firefox bug.

I still get duplicates though .. all the other bugs are still valid.
Wrong default dictionary and duplicate entries. (but there are seperate bugs about them)..

I will put this one on reject and post a more specific bug-report to language-support. I wonder its due to the fact that I installed Herd4 and upgraded my way into it. It might be an old bug..
