Looks like something else is broken because the error message is wrong.
Python 2.7.2+ is >= 2.5 and <2.8.

I also get this error when trying to install this package. I remember when upgrading from 11.04 that it removed the profiler during the installation.

It looks like Depends: python (>= 2.5) is wrong/outdated. It should be >= 2.6 (but I'm not an expert in python modules packaging).
Even in Precise, ubuntu still make use of python-profiler 2.6.6-0ubuntu1. Looks like an update to python-profiler 2.7.1-X is anyhow needed.

Forget it.
The profiler is included in the python package.
What's the point of the python-profiler package?

Xavier,

My understanding is that it is supposed to be part of the standard library, and it was before 11.10.

With 11.10 they removed it to separate it out due to licensing philosophies, and made it an optional package.

This package appears to be uninstallable on oneiric. :(

If it is the case that this package is simply obsolete (functionality moved to core python packages), that leaves two bugs... one is the spurious error message from apt, the other is that the python-profiler package shouldn't be in oneiric or later distros any more. Can anyone verify whether python-profiler has any purpose in oneiric or later?
