Hi bertoldic!

I suppose you are using Feisty :)

Could you attach the compiz crash logs? That would be really useful.

And can anybody else confirm this?

I have feisty up-to-date. I've launched compiz, and it works, though I have some problems with it (windows not showing their content, but that's another issue).

But I'm running a laptop with an Intel GMA, with the i810 driver.
Can anybody else confirm this bug?

This problem it's due by the current feisty xorg 7.2 migration, wait until migration finished : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/84731

Today most of libmesa is being merged so it might work since the issue was libmesa.

I can confirm that a few days ago compiz stopped working - on a fresh install with an nvidia card, enabling desktop effects makes the already present windows go wobbly, but no new windows can appear, including the one counting down before reverting to Metacity. If I minimize a window it disappears, but I can't restore it. Clicking on the panel menus or hovering for a tool tip does nothing. Still true after updating compiz again today, 2/23.

same thing with nvidia card, no new windows can appear, but can still switch between current windows, rotate cubes etc.

seems something has gone wrong with the mapping of windows in both beryl and compiz. So the issue is most likely not actually in compiz or beryl but somewhere in x server

yes. and the x.org 7.2 transition appears to be finished, so with compiz now loading but acting erratic (with reguard to moving/changing windows, visual artifacts) where do we stand with respect to this... it appears cross platform and video driver. somebody in the know: is the nature of this bug completely understood? if so will it be fixed?

I don't know wether this will be fixed or not. But I think the transition to X.org 7.2 is not finished. We still have to update the drivers. So maybe this will be fixed when the drivers are synced (maybe not). Just keep us in the loop if it works then :)

Best regards
Emilio

I still have problem with compiz after updates. If I try to switch to GL Desktop the window remains without any decoration and nothing works like cube, alt-tab windows switch and so on but compiz.real seems to not crash now (before it crashed)

applied all updates this morn (3/1), compiiz still does not work properly... it will start via "compiz --replace" but utimately must be closed and metacity restarted to gain usability.... with compiz the windows are often misdrawn w/ weird distortions of the wobble effect, and lots of horizontal visual artifacts in the bottom right hand portion of the screen whenever something else on screen is redrawn. im running on nvidia (9631 driver) on feisty amd64, using compiz vis "desktop-effects" package, and the native AIGLX in xorg.

As far as I can tell, nothing has changed with the recent updates. For me, this means I still have exactly the same symptoms as in https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/beryl-core/+bug/86797/comments/6

I run XGL with an ATI Xpress 200M card on amd64. Metacity running under XGL works fine.

This bug seems to have become a general "my compiz doesn't work" dumping ground. Please open separate bugs for your issues. From what I can tell the original bug is not a compiz problem.
