Can't write to UDF disc in Feisty

Bug Description

I created some UDF DVD+RW discs (always titled the same...LinuxUDF) back when I used Dapper. I then installed Edgy and I was still able to add or delete files from the disc without any trouble. Since I've installed Feisty I've noticed that I can not copy and paste nor drag and drop files onto the disc. Feisty does not seem to recognize these discs as being in the UDF format. Feisty sees them only as Read-Only discs. I've tried adding files from Terminal as root, but, again, Feisty sees them as Read-Only. It appears to me that the ability to write to UDF discs has been taken out of the 2.6.19 and 2.6.20 kernel or it could be related to /dev/hdc being still listed under Group floppy.

In fstab the line:

/dev/hdc /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto 0 0

obviously shows udf listed.

I can revert back Edgy and these same discs, that Feisty will not allow me to write to, work just fine.

If you have any suggestions or questions then please contact me or respond to this post.

Thanks.

Still does not work on Gutsy 64-bit (2.6.22-14)
It looks like that root "virtally" Can write to UDF cdrw BUT after umount/mount, udf disk still looks empty!
I even tried
sudo mount -o rw,noatime /dev/hda /media/cdrom1
And the same. Root writings to udf seems "virtual" and users don`t have ability to write.

I think you need to set up the packet writing device using pktsetup from package udftools, then mount the packet writing device:

mount /dev/pktcdvd/pktcdvd0 /media/cdrom1 -t udf -o rw,noatime

(At least in hardy - maybe things were different back in the dark days of 2007!)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

I'm the original bug filer, bobbyjean58. Wow! Feb 22, 2007...a long time ago. Actually, I had forgotten about filing this bug report. I've since moved on to using USB pen drives for storing or erasing data. Much more dependable than those flaky UDF DVDRW discs. If the least little thing went wrong while writing or erasing data then, a majority of the time, the whole disc was ruined and you lost all your data.

Thanks, Przemyslaw, for the email but I don't use UDF DVDRW discs any longer.

Have a nice day. :).
