Double text display issue with crossfire-client-gtk2

Just a note: as a Crossfire dev, I've seen this bug reported many times by ubuntu users, however nobody has reproduced it except under ubuntu.

It is happening to me...

This also affects crossfire-client-gtk (r8208) with the '--enable-cfgtk' ./configure flag.

It seems to be an issue only with 64-bit binaries. I installed the 'crossfire-client-gtk2' package in a 32-bit chroot environment and did not experience this bug.

I've a 64 and a 32 bit system with version 1.10 installed and on the 32 bit version the client work fine. On the 64-bit box all keys pressed are inserted twice in the available text boxes as described above. The gtk1 client is okay on 64bit.

As a crossfire developer (not an Ubuntu user) I can say this is not a upstream bug, I run 64-bit Gentoo Linux and the client works perfectly there. Nor has it been reproduced on any other distro. So I'm considering closing the upstream bug with "works for me".

For your information: Upstream bug has been set to pending (will auto close in 30 days if there are no updates) with resolution "works for me".

As already mentioned, this problem seems to be specific to the Ubuntu 64bits package, so there is no reason to keep the upstream bug open if it cannot be reproduced on other systems. There is an unconfirmed rumor that a similar bug may affect (some?) users of Fedora 64bits, however I cannot find any trace of such a bug report in Red Hat's bugzilla.

It seems that this bug is not limited to the 64bit package. I have the 1.9.1-2 gtk2 version installed(precompiled) on a 32bit Ubuntu Feisty and I am seeing the same bug. I installed the gtk version and the bug does not appear there. This seems to fly in the face of some reports in the upstream bug but its what I am seeing.
If it might be of any help - I am only seeing this bug in text box in the Messages section. All other text input seems to be fine.

It has finally been reproduced, and appears to be the fault of some unusual CFLAGS that get used in the builds made by the Ubuntu/Fedora packagers. Right now it is being tested to see what specific CFLAG is problematic.

Ahh, it appears that "-fstack-protector" is the problem CFLAG...

This issue has been fixed in the Crossfire client release, v1.12.0

An updated package needs to be created and pushed out to finally put this bug to rest. Current packages are based on the 1.11.0 client.

The 1.12.0 client is fully compatible with the 1.11.0 server and many of the earlier releases before that.
