many UI problems after installing oneiric

Bug Description

I've installed oneiric on my laptop using today's ISO, and I see weird problems that I don't see on my netbook:
- a grey top bar
- some invisible unity icons
- no sound indicator
- no shut down indicator

On my installation, I kept my previous /home, and formatted and reinstalled everything else. I suppose my previous preferences made a mess with the new version.

The attached screenshot shows my dual monitor display, with all the problems highlighted.

I had the exact same problem. I even had to reinstall ubuntu natty and work my way around to restore my desktop. I don know if it's related but the problem for me started when I activated a plugin in the CCSM to manage support for JPEG images.

Unity 2D worked fairly OK but with a few errors as well. In Unity 3D the top panel was frozen with the Menu titles, the launcher was gone, i couldn't use the dash or launch any application. The only one working was "Natilius" but when I wanted to open a file nothing happened.

if the issues still persist in Ubuntu 12.04 please report each bug individually.
