Bug Description

Binary package hint: debian-installer

Looks similar to #40186, but that is closed.

Outline:
With edgy it's no longer possible to access first hard-drive with preseed as /dev/discs/disc0/disc, only as /dev/sda or /dev/hda. So it's impossible to create a preseed file that is hardware-independent.

Problem:
With dapper it's possible to define the first disc as:
d-i partman-auto/disk string /dev/discs/disc0/disc

With edgy it's only possible to define the first disc as:
d-i partman-auto/disk string /dev/sda
or
d-i partman-auto/disk string /dev/hda

Those paths were a remnant of devfs, and it got removed completely for edgy.

at least with feisty you can use this:

d-i partman-auto/disk string /dev/sda /dev/hda

(or similar, check the docs)
