Version 2.8.0-0ubuntu4~edgy1 has been backported to Edgy recently. Could you please try to reproduce this behaviour with such version? Thank you.

I'm currently using Feisty.
Doesn't Feisty have the latest version already?

Yes, it has the latest version.

Which plugin are you talking about, and where have you installed it from?

I'm talking about the "Auto Away" plugin which comes installed by default, that's why I filed the bug under "xchat" instead of the specific plugin.

Please add detailed instructions how to enable this plugin. I was not able to find it (using Gutsy x86 xchat 2.8.4). Thanks in advance.

I'm currently not running Gutsy Gibbon, so I can't test the newest version.
To activate the plugin, go to:
Edit > Preferences > Scripts and Plugins > Auto Away

Once activated, the behavior is reproducible.

Any other thing you need, I'll be happy to help out.

I get the warnings in a random channel on my auto-join list (that usually doesn't have activity).

do you use gnome-screensaver and is dbus working correctly?

I do use gnome-screensaver, although I should note this problem has been repeated in every fresh install I've done (on different laptops even).
dbus is working correctly.

Is this not reproducible en other Feisty installs?

let's close the bug since upstream doesn't get it using the current version and there has been no recent duplicate
