Bug Description

Binary package hint: electricsheep

Currently, electricsheep shows up in the gnome-screensaver list, but choosing it doesn't do anything.
It appears that gnome-screensaver tries to launch a non-existant binary.

I'm sorry, I'm new to Linux, how do I use this "thing" I don't even know what to call it. And how I go about making electric sheep work?

For me, this bug is not fixed. g-s doesn't start sheep.

Loki: Usually, you would only need to install electricsheep and choose it in the screensaver settings. It seems to be buggy however, so there's no easy way to make it work.

Can anybody confirm this is fixed or not fixed?
I made a clean install of feisty 20070415 and neither standalone nor screensaver does anything except wait.

He Sebastian. You are on Feisty? I've got 3 Feisty boxes running this package gleefully generating sheep and running all day long. Can you provide any more info what happens when you choose Electric Sheep as your screensaver? Does it not spawn the process?

The sheep generation/grab process is much much slower on linux than on mac or windows. I have to leave mine running a whole night sometimes to get new sheep in. No integrated torrent client is built in. Given that you are having troubles with standalone electricsheep though, if you continue to encounter issues - open a fresh bug.

Yep feisty... installed today from the 20070415 images. When I start it manually (calling electricsheep), it says it's downloading sheep (yes, my network connection is working) and spawns a couple of processes. According to strace, the only thing these processes do is wait... some are hanging on some restart call, some are waiting for other processes to finish (wait_pid), one is waiting on a "read" call. I can provide better answers, if these answers don't show any obvious problems...?

Ah, thanks. I might try that out in the afternoon. Maybe I just need to leave it running then.
