Bug Description

I've attempted to use several different packages to encode .wav files (2 standards, GSM 6.10 or 16 bit PCM) - each package returns the most garbled error message which I've ever seen in my life. They suggest the disk is full (which it isn't, I have 129.6GB left on here) and then present the following (note, this contains unicode symbols, you may not see it as I do:)

Error while writing WAV (Microsoft) file (disk full?).
Libsndfile says "æ
OãÐøÇE
"

Now your guess is as good as mine, and I'm no cryptographer, but that message from Libsndfile says "I'm borked, please fix me!"

Seriously, this error is affecting use of programs like Audacity, kdenlive, VLC and others which use the .wav format for encoding media.

Any help to figure out what on earth is going on would be welcomed.

Please do the following:

   a) Make sure you have sndfile-programs installed.

   b) FInd any random text file and do:

            cp random_text_file.txt rubbish.au

  c) Convert the text file to WAV using:

             sndfile-convert rubbish.au rubbish.wav

Let us know what happens.

It went through absolutely fine, Erik - i'm suspecting then that this could be a bug with audacity rather than libsndfile. I might point this at them instead.

As promised, I've forwarded this bug up to audacity so that they can look at their code - I've confirmed now that it's not a problem with libsndfile. I'll let you know if I get anything back from them, Erik. Cheers.

This bug was fixed in the package libsndfile - 1.0.31-1ubuntu1
