Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Hey all,

I upgraded to Feisty yesterday, and updated this morning. When starting a GNOME session, I get "The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_KeyboardApplet". If I do not delete the applet, every subsequent entry into GNOME will result in no GNOME panel until I do a "killall gnome-panel" a few minutes into the session. The applet does not appear to co-exist peacefully with the panel.

Thank you for your bug. Do you have the gnome-applets package installed? Could you run /usr/lib/gnome-applets/gnome-keyboard-applet from a command line and then try to add the applet and note what is printed then?

Hello,

Thank you for your quick response.

The command gives me the following output:

~$ /usr/lib/gnome-applets/gnome-keyboard-applet
GTK Accessibility Module initialized
Bonobo accessibility support initialized
~$

Nothing appears to happen.

If I do the above, and then do "Add Panel" > Keyboard indicator, then it indeed appears as expected, but causes problems in the future on subsequent logins.

Hope that helps.

With regards to my part of the problem, it is basically done.. It was apparently a conflict with SVN beryl packages. Once I uninstalled them, the problem disappeared. Gnome-panel still occasionally crashed when certain windows were open sometimes, but that has since receded with subsequent upgrades.
