Maarten - thanks for submitting this patch. As I mentioned in the merge review, I believe this should go through debian (see http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting). If you do so, you can mark this bug as 'also affecting' the debian bug # you opened.

I deleted the merge proposal: we will wait for Debian to update the package with my changes and grab the fix from them.

Once this lands in Debian, could you perform a merge of it? (Ubuntu has modifications of the samba package.)

My patch is accepted in samba version 3.6.3-2. When it is available, I'll update the samba package.
It only has some bug fixes and patches from Ubuntu, so an upgrade should be possible for the precise beta, I suppose
