Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

I have Bellsouth DSL using a Westell modem. Connected to the modem is a Netgear wireless router, but my PC is cabled to the router. Running xubuntu 6.06, if I close Firefox 2.02 (or it crashes) I lose network connectivity. I can ping my Netgear router but nothing after it. I have to ifdown/up the interface to restore network connectivity. I have no other problems with any other application just with Firefox.

Yes, this happens all the time. I have to keep firefox open all the time or run my script that down/up the eth0 interface once I close firefox.

I upgraded to xubuntu 6.10 and I'm still having the problem so I think this is with Firefox version 2.02. I have not tried to downgrade firefox yet.

Please do so if possible and report what you find.

What is the output of

 # dmesg

and what is gets written to /var/log/syslog when this happens?

Here is dmesg file. Nothing gets written to syslog on this issue. I think I might be mistaken on xubuntu 6.10 having the exact same issue. Most of the time tonight I was able to close Firefox without losing connectivity but can easily reproduce the problem if Firefox crashes or I kill the process. xubuntu 6.06 I had the problem every time Firefox closed.

I've been running 2.0.0.3 for 2 days and I haven't had any issues with losing network connectivity. I think you can close this issue.
