battery_low_percentage popup and other issues (GConf problem?)

Bug Description

I have used Edgy for a few months. These problems started a few weeks ago, likely after a dist-upgrade.

First, the slow-keys (bounce-keys?) accessibility feature
enabled itself. Then I disabled it.
Then other problems started. For all users on my laptop:

- I get an error message at startup "GConf schema installer error,
battery_low_percentage cannot be zero".
- Most Gnome keyboard shortcuts stopped working, such as Alt-Tab.
- My bottom panel's Window List applet no longer has buttons for each running task. I can't re-add these buttons either, though I added a tiny Window Selector applet which pops up a window menu, and that works fine.
- All root-needing apps on the Gnome menus seem to run gksu in su mode instead of sudo-mode. This is useless, as I haven't set a password for my root user.
- Weird things have changed with the Gnome panel and transparency/color.

Here is the output of $ gconftool-2 --get /apps/gksu/sudo-mode

** (gconftool-2:9658): WARNING **: Owner of /tmp/orbit-j2 is not the current user

No value set for `/apps/gksu/sudo-mode'

Note: I think the "Owner of /tmp/orbit-j2 is not the current user" message is because of additional troubleshooting steps I have taken since, which include deleting my ~/.gcon* and ~/.gno* and deleting certain things in /tmp. My username is j, but I made another user j2.

could you try that command after a restart?

I rebooted, tried the same command, and got the same output (below).
What else can I try? Btw: If anyone would like to VNC or
ssh(1)+kibitz(1) into my system to try and troubleshoot, I can arrange
that.

Would require debugging of somebody getting the bug, we get hundred of new desktop bugs a week and there is only 3-4 people working on them, might take some time before we can work your bug

Yes, I still get the bug exactly as before. But now I noticed another
problem: my root partition is a little corrupt. For
example, one of my emacs packages now doesn't load because what used
to be the /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/semantic/ directory is now a
file. I just found out about the corruption recently but it could be
the problem.

I say we close this bug as WONTFIX. :) What do you think?

Likely due to the disk corruption then, closing that's not a bug
