Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

Nautilus first shows Nikon RAW files (.NEF) as "Nikon raw image" (which is correct) but as soon as I click on one, the type is changed to "TIFF image".

Another side effect of this is that after clicking on the file the thumbnail isn't shown anymore (the file has a thumbnail embedded) and instead there is a generic icon for a picture.

Actually, I installed ufraw which has it's own mime-info file and the behaviour is now consistent. The Nikon-reference came from /usr/share/mime/packages/freedesktop.org.xml, which maybe should include a bit more than just this:

  <mime-type type="image/x-nikon-nef">
    <comment>Nikon raw image</comment>
    <glob pattern="*.nef"/>
  </mime-type>

while ufraw-mime.xml has this:

  <mime-type type="image/x-nikon-nef">
    <sub-class-of type="image/x-dcraw"/>
    <sub-class-of type="image/tiff"/>
    <comment>Nikon raw image</comment>
    <acronym>NEF</acronym>
    <expanded-acronym>Nikon Electronic Format</expanded-acronym>
    <glob pattern="*.nef"/>
  </mime-type>

I'm working on Ubuntustudio 7.10, gutsy gibbon, shared-mime-info is version 0.22-2ubuntu2 and have that same problem (didn't have it under edgy eft and skipped feisty fawn); installing the stand-allone version of ufraw did not really help. As I work with F-Spot as catalogue I would love to have the right mime-typ on the NEFs (uppercase; nef lower-case-letters is working fine), because else it doesn't give me GIMP in the context-menue and I'm not really fond of bulk-renaming xxxx pictures in ?? folder and subfolder :)
