Bug Description

Using Feisty, cx6600 recently stopped printing ( even test page). The print job would just be marked as stopped after several seconds.

So I deleted the printer to re-add it. Now it is not detected

Please note that no printer is attached at present as the printer is not detected. The scanner function works fine.

You have attached the script itself instead of the output.
Please try to setup your printer, then run the script and attach the output of the script: printingbuginfo.txt

Can you also attach your /etc/cups/cupsd.conf file.

Ooops - in too much of a rush.

I have tried re-installing the printer - it is no longer detected. I deleted it because all jobs were marked stopped after about a minute, with no actual output. Sometimes deleting and reinstalling works.... not this time. Prior to this problem I had not printed anything for a week or so.

The Device Manager ( from Control panel) shows "Stylus CX6600" under USB Printer Interface.

For what it is worth, I tried my Knoppix 5.1.1 boot CD and that detected the printer.

For some reason you have no cups backends activated.

Note that package updating keeps the current backend configuration, so you need to activate the backends manually.
Please activated the backends again with this command:
$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure cupsys
By default all backends should be activated, for your usb printer the usb backend should definitely be activated.

Pascal,

That did the trick detected and test page printed.

Many thanks to all of you!

Is ther something about one of the upgrades that could have removed the USB back-end - it's not something that I knowingly did myself.

Here is the output - not totally clean, but just cosmetic problems it appears:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure cupsys

Your problem was also reported by other users, therefore I am marking your bug report as a duplicate now. See the other report (bug 92042) for more info about the problem.

It was caused by an attempt to improve the configuration facility for the backend. From cupsys_1.2.8-0ubuntu7 on it should all work again.
