Bug Description

ok, so thats what it says after x gdm restarts and a couple of minutes waiting.......

There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.

Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work correctly.

The last error message was:

Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log in.

Thank you for your bug. Does it happen on boot and every time? Do you use any firewall? Do it happen with any user?

hi there!

yes it happens at every boot and every time since i updated the system.
i am using iptables scripts on my internet gateway pc - so all traffic
is routed and masqueraded to the internal network, all other machines in
the internal net are not protected by an other firewallscript. the
problem in subject happens on a single user notebook which i am using
for testing purposes only.

ciao

Similar symptoms on my 7.04 desktop install are produced by remote (Windows XP) logins from both Hummingbird Exceed or X-Win32 on 100% of my attempts.

However, this bug thread provided a complete fix for me:
