Bug Description

When a bug is marked as duplicate other reporters of that bug gets a couple of email messages informing of this duplicate bug. The average bug reporter does NOT need this info, and this IS going to keep people from reporting bugs in the future.

See, among others, the comments from regular bug reporters here:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gaim/+bug/89062
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/85776

I think it will not be enough to make the unsubscribe procedure more simple, this needs to be something the bug reporter can sign up for (opt in) instead as of today, where you have to unsubscribe (in a rather clumsy way).

I repeat, if this is not fixed some people are going to stop reporting bugs, and no one wants that!
