Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I'm not really sure if this bug is related to gnome-panel.
Suddenly today, after a dist-upgrade on feisty, synaptic and other icons (gparted, language support, users&groups..) has disappeared from my System menu. The applications are still in the computer and runs fine from terminal.
If I launch alacarte, those applications are listed in italics font and cannot be checked. When I check them, the check box resets to un-checked state.

Ooops... no.
Now that I am, the menu entries have come back again.
I am using the same system since warty. Why after a dist-upgrade should I have been removed from admin group? Or, that is the same, why should I have to join the group with no notices?

Thank you, seb.

What version were you using? How did you update? There is no reason for groups to change on upgrade and that admin membership code is available since dapper. Are you sure you didn't run any tool that could have changed that for you?

I was using breezy and now dapper, and I have updated from a version to another with apt-get in a single-user mode.

Don't know about any tool which can change the group assignment, but I will be scared of that!!
