Bug Description

Whenever I switch from a virtual terminal back to VT7, I see the following entry in dmesg:

[drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id

Other than in bug 808384, this comes with no visual or functional issues*. I'm also getting it with vanilla Linux 3.2.8, however it's gone since Linux 3.3-rc1. I tracked down the "fix", which just disables printing the error message:

http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=acb4b992d8a13728044f430b47b9199aa45993e9

*) Xorg.0.log shows the following:

[ 76151.269] (II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch
[ 76151.762] (II) Open ACPI successful (/var/run/acpid.socket)

Other than seeing that message, do you have any issues after switching from a virtual terminal back to VT7?

Right after the switch, sometimes one or two elements in the top panel refresh/redraw (window title, Skype tray icon), but that happens almost instantly and causes no delay. I cannot say if that ever has been any different, just that it's not an issue to me.

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all. Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request further testing. This is such a request.

We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still exists or not.

You can update to the latest development kernel by simply running the following commands in a terminal window:

    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get upgrade

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Fix Released.

If you want this bot to quit automatically requesting kernel tests, add a tag named: bot-stop-nagging.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.

I have the same bug on Fujitsu-Siemens S7020.

appear each time when I switched from VT1-6 (with virtual text console) to VT7 (with X.org session opened).
System is up to date Ubuntu 12.04 Beta. I could try to provide you with a set of required symptoms in case you advice me what and how.

I also get this bug (Asus EeePC 1005HA) in 12.04 when resuming from suspend. I also have a related problem: I usually have an enlarged (1024x768) framebuffer and panning enabled through xrandr, and these disappear after resuming. This message is the only video-related error reported in syslog, so I assume they are connected. I also see the redraw that reply #3 describes; in fact, if I try (through a script in /etc/pm/sleep.d) to re-enable panning, if it runs before the redraw, then the panning is negated again; I have to sleep for a few seconds until it passes. This makes me think that the redraw is actually the framebuffer being restarted, if unsuccessfully.

Today I've experience the worse behavior, some scroll bars were working for not all, the firefox for example the search textbox was getting the mouse pointer normally, but not the google search textbox, the google links were unclickable and this error was logged on syslog.
