Bug Description
Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20
In a VMWare VM with default settings for Ubuntu (LSI SCSI disk, ATAPI CD-ROM), I noticed the following message:
Mar 21 19:42:16 kernel: [ 263.152645] ata1: reset failed, giving up
the boot seems to pause for a few seconds at that point. Oddly, the message immediately *preceding* this one is:
Mar 21 19:42:16 kernel: [ 263.152645] ata1: port disabled. ignoring.
If that port is being ignored, why is it trying to reset it?
The boot continues without incident, so I don't think this is a serious problem.

Was able to reproduce this on my ws6 install. I also get a lot of Exception Emask messages. The piix (ide) module seems to work better for this device, so switching back to it.
