Bug Description

Hi

I've got a PC with a Hyundai screen 1280 x 1024.

It works that way with Windows 2000 and Edgy, but with the Feisty live CD, it turns to 1024 x 768 as a maximum. Even though I initiated at starting point F4 = 1280x1024x24

Anything you can do ? Thx a lot

Well, can you give model number of the Hyundai screen?
Also please attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log and your /etc/xorg.conf file to this bug?

If you know how, adding package xresprobe, then in a console doing 'sudo ddcprobe > ddcprobe.txt' and then attaching ddcprobe.txt file would also help.

Hi Paul

We're lucky because when I started again live CD (by the way daily live 20-03-2007), it did once 1280x1024 and 2nd time 1024x768

I cheched from your suggestion the 2 different xorg.conf

One detected the right screen and stated:

QY [Radeon 7000/VE]"
 Monitor "L70S"
 DefaultDepth 24
 SubSection "Display"
  Depth 1
  Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768"

The other one couldn't detect the screen (WHY?):
QY [Radeon 7000/VE]"
 Monitor "Écran générique"
 DefaultDepth 24
 SubSection "Display"
  Depth 1
  Modes "1024x768" "800x600"

Now the real problem is:
Why sometimes my screen is detected and sometimes not????

To answer your question, my screen is a Hyundai ImageQuest L70S

Your 2nd question is less obvious for me, lets work with this first and if needed, I'm willing to do other tests as long as they correspond to my level!!!

Have a nice day

PS: here attached, the 2 requested files in the 2 definitions

Hi again Paul

Finally I could manage your 2nd question. Here is the result on the wrong config (1024x768)

Well, I am working in front to make sure all the information needed by developpers is found, and I think they will have all the info now, thanks!

But intermitent problems are not easy to figure out. As far as I could guess, it could be simply that the monitor plug was not totally inserted in the video card. Or it could be timing issues, that would be quite hard to figure out.

Hi

I got the same screen, and the same problem. I think line

timing: 1024x768@87 Hz Interlaced (8514A)

is wrong and must be removed in screen definition to solve bug (Screen specifs are between 60 and 75 Hz).

Gerard,

This is extremely interesting that it works sometimes, and doesn't work other times. At first, this sounds exactly like bug 3731, however no one has ever reported this working intermittently as you have. It's very clear looking at your xorg.conf file that sometimes it detects the monitor as L70S, and other times detects it as "Generic Monitor".

Would you mind doing some tests? Could you boot the live CD a bunch of times and for each boot, take some measurements:

For each LiveCD boot trial:
   * Does /etc/X11/xorg.conf show L705 or Generic Monitor?
   * Was xresprobe installed? (run command `which xresprobe`)
   * Did you do any unusual actions during boot (press some keys, choose different boot options, etc.)
   * Anything else unique about this boot?

This information could prove to be extremely handy at getting insights into this problem that many, many people are running into, so your help would be very much appreciated!

Hi, I'm going for vacations, I'll do it when I return, sorry!!

Anyway, no Pb after installation, it always work fine, maybe the released version solved the bug?

Hi gerard, did you have a chance to test the live cd more?

Hi Bryce.

I actually opened several times w/ live CD on several PCs and this never happened again.

I guess you can close the bug now.

Thx for your concern
