Bug Description
I am seeing a lot of posts on the forums regarding this message, but no one seems to have a definitive answer as to why this message is being displayed.
There are various answers being given regarding POSSIBLE causes of this message but none of them seem to square with what I have observed.
I have had this message occur just after I had completey WIPED the hard drive on the machine I was about to install on and STILL I got this message. So that sort of tells me that it is probably NOT related to anything that is currenly residing on the hard drive.
I had thought that maybe this message was somehow related to a problem the installer was having with various video cards but I have since started to think that that may not be the case.
Might I ask, if there is a possibility that even though the user/installer has run the check CD integrity / verification function that is found on the initial Ubuntu boot screen menu and had a return of ZERO sumcheck errors found, that it is still possible that the burned CD can have problems that go undetect by the verification function, i.e. how confident are we in this CD integrity check / verification function ? Has the integrity of the integrity check been ADEQUATELY tested.
Thanks.
I am reasonably sure that the media verification test produces correct results.
Please try the Feisty Beta when it is released (real soon now). The kernel has a number of lib-ata fixes that might correct your problem.
