Bug Description

Web indexed version of manuals and documentation should only be the most recent stable release.

EXAMPLE

A Google search for "create windows server image in openstack" top two results are:

http://docs.openstack.org/cactus/openstack-compute/admin/content/creating-a-windows-image.html

http://docs.openstack.org/cactus/openstack-compute/admin/content/glance-system-requirements.html

EXPECTED RESULTS

Which are links to the Cactus (2011 spring release) when they should be links to Diablo.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION

Host the newest stable version at docs.openstack.org/stable/ , and don't web index the specific release versions.

Lloyd, thanks for noting this. I've talked with others about it as well.

My understanding is that the Opinion status is defined to be a close state like Fixed or Invalid. Setting ticket back to new pending clarification on the use of Opinion.

I have changed the top-level index page to be all /trunk pointers. So the "Possible solution" has been done somewhat.

The second half "don't web index the specific release versions" is still pending.

NIce! The documentation seems to be iterating fast so /trunk is a great fit at this time.

An information architecture with a promoted /stable alias seems like a common long term solution.

How is this going now we've switched from /trunk to /essex ?

I consider this bug fixed, though it was the sitemap that was causing the Google search to return cactus links. So yup, mark it fix released.

Lloyd, is the current behavior what you want or are you still seeking a /stable? I'd prefer not to add a /stable as it doesn't really fit with the commenting scheme set up. I think we are where we want it to be, marking Fix Released, but feel free to open a new bug.
