Bug Description

I have A Dell 3007WFP monitor and a Radeon x1650xt graphic card w. Duallink DVI. The monitor only supports two solutions 2560x1600 and 1280x800. Without the correct driver the display is not nice. I don't know if this is a bug.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. What do you mean without the correct driver? Which driver did you use to get it to work? Thanks in advance.

I don't realy know. I don't know much detail about Linux. I just made the instalation the easy way, where i didn't get to answer many questions, and I cannot find a graphics card in the device list.

I read your question again. -- Now I have tried the Restricted Graphics Driver. As I understand, that is the ATI fglrx 8.34.8, and is supposed to support the Radeon x1650 series. So maybe I need to change som parameters?
I only get to choose between resolusions 1024x768, 800x600 and 640x480 while I want to choose 2560x1600.

The change to fglrx had only a slight effect and not for the better.

I think, the problem is, that my panel doesn't comply with the VESA standard. See attached Xorg log.

Of course not knowing VESA myself, I cannot judge, who is complying, but knowing the resolutions supported, it's easy to find the information in the Xorg log.

vesa driver does not support such resolutions I guess, and radeon does not support your card. The only solution is to use fglrx, you can enable it with restricted-manager.

The restricted manager offers a slight improvement, but I still get only 1280x800.
I attached xorg.0.log

This should be fixed in hardy, which has an open driver for this card. Feel free to reopen if it doesn't work.
