Bug Description

After upgrading to 12.04 Beta 1 today (13. 03. 2012) I tried to install all available updates. libxfixes did not upgrade, although I'm absolutely sure I didn't touch the changelog file. This caused a rat tail of errors, especially since the i386 version of the package refuses to install if the amd64 one doesn't have the same version. A manual reinstall of libxfixes fixed the issue...

How exactly did you manually reinstall the package? If I use aptitude to do this, it proposes to remove hundreds of packages. Seems like a bad idea to me...

I used synaptic. There's an option named "reinstall package" and opposed to uninstalling this doesn't cause any dependency changes.

As I don't have synaptic installed, and cannot install via apt-get because of the messed up dependencies, I cannot solve the problem this way. When I try aptitude, it wants to remove a lot of packages.
Apt-get is now unresponsive because of the unresolved dependencies. Is there a way to fix this?

I'm sorry I can't help. In my case aptitute reinstall libxfixes3 simply works without any dependency problems...

I'm sorry, I didn't keep the file that was present before reinstalling the package and now I guess it has been replaced with a non-corrupted version by the reinstall. I'll attach the version I've now anyhow, but I guess it won't help.

I believe this was originally a bug in one of the archive tools, and that the subsequent libxfixes upload got built with fixed tools.
