Bug Description

Binary package hint: openssl

I started adept and got informed there was a Feisty beta to upgrade to.
I started the upgrade process and when the upgrade process came to the configuration of the openssl package it just hang there.
I restarted the PC and gave an "apt-get -f upgrade". Upgrade started again.
When the package manager came to the openssl package I found out that it says something like: "Libraries upgraded, you now have to restart the services that depend on it" and there's a confirmation dialog. I answered it and all went well: I don't know why but starting the upgrade process from adepd under X I had no info about this dialogue.

Have similar today when upgrading Kubuntu 6.10 to 7.04-beta. using KubuntuDistUpgrade. It downloaded +1000 packages, and then during upgrade, when it came to openssl, upgrader opened the termial window with text-based message box from openssl package about services that needs to be restarted. I've tried to press the 'ok' button on the message box, but without effect. Upgrader hanged. I've killed -9 'em, and now i have broken, semi-upgraded system.

I had the same issue. However, I believe this is a generic problem using the (K)Ubuntu GUI for package management. It seems like the dialogs from apt are not handled correctly by the GUI. It seems like "Adept manager" can't deal with interactivity from the backend apt process. This is the type problems that scare off the Linux newbies. It would be great if somebody can take a closer look at this.

thanks for reporting this bug people. To establish what is causing the problem it would help if you could attach your log files from /var/log/dist-upgrade

Can anyone confirm that this is still a problem in the feisty final release? It's difficult to do anything about this without the logs from /var/log/dist-upgrade to diagnose the issue.

thanks,
Richard
