Bug Description

Dell 17" LCD model 1704FPT isn't properly configured in Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Beta.

The correct parameters for this monitor are:

1280x1024 @ 60Hz Native (75Hz max)

Horizontal Sync 30-81
Vertical Refresh 56-75

Ubuntu configures it as:

1024x768 @ 60Hz (highest rez offered and no 75Hz option selectable)

Horizontal Sync 28-51
Vertical Refresh 43-60

You have to manually edit the xorg config file which in turn makes the restricted driver manager and enable desktop effects options useless. They complain about not being able to configure a manually altered xorg file.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please add your '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' file and your '/var/log/Xorg.0.log' file as attachments to your bug report? Thanks in advance.

I already changed the horiz/vertical rates and added the 1280x1024 res option to xoerg.conf so can I just change those parameters back to what ubuntu originally configured them and send the files or do I have to re-install ubuntu? I'm highly inexperienced so I know of no other way. Please advise.

Here are the files you requested. Please note that I already modified the xorg.conf to include the correct resolution and refresh rate for my monitor. If these files won't work, let me know and I'll re-install ubuntu and obtain fresh files for you.

I did a fresh install of 7.04 Final today and my Dell 1704FPT was running at the proper resolution and refresh so I guess this has been fixed. The only issue that remains is that the usplash still doesn't pickup the proper settings. It has the usplash set at 800x600 @ 60Hz then on another PC its at 1024x768 @ 60Hz. It changes to the correct settings once GDM starts.
