I am having this problem for quite some time, and I cant seem to fix it. I tried deleting the .gnome .gconf.
It was reset to normal, but the icons got jumbled again after a restart.

I am using ubuntu 8.10 Intepred Ibex on a fairly modern intel core 2 system.

I have attached a zip file containing a screenshot and also my .gnome and .gconf files.

please feel free to contact me for further details.
