Bug Description

Binary package hint: dvd+rw-tools

growisofs on feisty 7.0.1, from dvd+rw-tools 7.0-6 cannnot burn DVD+R's for me.

The problem first cropped up using k3b, to rule out any interference or problems with GUI software or interference from hal/dbus I stopped dbus, and burned from a tty.

growisofs -Z /dev/hdc /directory

The session ran and finished w/o any errors, nor any errors to dmesg, but I've coastered about 12 DVD's trying different things.

I cleaned my DVD lens, I've treid with 2.6.18 vanilla which I had been using on edgy, and I think even dapper all along, 2.6.10-9(-12)-generic, 2.6.21-rc4-mm1.

ISO's are made fine. I've been able to mount iso's I've tried to burn with loopback, so it certainly doesn't _seem_ to be genisofs

I'm about 1/2 way thru a stack of Sony DVD's that worked fine with dapper and edgy.

might be a duplicate of bug #76058. CDs don't burn either. They get wodim errors using a GUI and produce coasters if you use the command line.

I stand corrected, it does seem to be a problem with genisoimage.

I took an image I created on Linux to windows, I could mount the image as a virtual disc just like I could loopback on Linux, however when I burned the .iso it junked another DVD.

So I created an .iso using nero, and burned it fine using k3b. So it seems genisoimage is making iso's that are no good.

Well my lack of knowledge on the differences between +RW and +R keep me from doing much more fact gathering on this.

loopback mounting and +RW work +R doesn't: That makes me think the ISO genisoimage made _must_ be good, and growisofs must be having problems with burning it.

Only windows fails burning with the .iso made by genisoimage as well, and growisofs has no problem writing to +R's with an iso made in windows.

I don't know which one to blame. I guess the one constant is that neither windows nor Linux can burn +R's with an iso created with genisoimage?

Well, guess it's genisoimage for sure, I installed mkisofs and burned a good DVD+R for the first time in weeks.

Can't burn DVD-R's either, I grabbed some maxell -R's to try, windows will burn them just fine. Again no errors reported when burning, but they are unreadable.
