Inkscape crashes when trying to open the fill and stroke dialog

Bug Description

My system is up to date in the Hoary branch as of October 30th. The version of
Inkscape is 0.39-7.

When I try to open the "Fill and Stroke" dialog, the application crashes with
the error message:

"Inkscape encountered an internal error and will close now."

This happens when selecting the option in the menu - "Object > Fill and Stroke",
and when using the keyboard shortcut - "Ctrl+Shift+F".

I had a file open when I first experienced the bug, but it's reproducable even
with no file open (or the default new file).

There was a very similar-sounding bug which had to do with
~/.inkscape/preferences.xml (bug #9115). If you move that file out of the way,
does it fix the bug?

Nope. Moving preferences.xml doesn't change anything - same crash, same
situation. There was another file in ~/.inkscape which looked like a temp file.
I tried with and without that file as well with no change.

It probably doesn't make any difference since the crash exists with or without
the preference file, but the Inkscape version number in preferences.xml is
different than the installed version of the app:

That's a crasher with the new glib fixed in the CVS according to this bug report:
