Bug Description
I've tried Nova Essex (RC-1) with LXC on Ubuntu 11.10. For doing that, I've compiled the libguestfs library from sources (because not delivered on Ubuntu). The compilation of this library generates the "guestmount" command line necessary for LXC.
After trying LXC, I switched back to KVM but after that, Nova was unable to activate instances which stay at the "building" state and there is no error reported in the nova-compute log file.
After removing the "guestmount" command line, Nova is OK.

By 'removing the "guestmount" command line", do you meain removing the guestmount command from the system?
If so, I'm guessing this command was just hanging.
Did you try to run the guestmount command independently?
Did the "nbd" method not work (it should be tried before libguestfs if the nbd module is loaded)
