System freeze after attaching gdb to Xorg

Bug Description

I wanted to produce a backtrace as described in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing for the bug #979702.
After entering "(gdb) attach <the process ID>" I've got a system freeze. (tried it twice, so it seems to be reproducable)

This is expected -- you stalled X while in X. :)

Try the gdb session from tty1 or after sshing in from another machine.
