3D desktops such as gnome-shell and unity (3D) are unusable beause they are either too slow, freeze or crash with latest update

This bug appears to affect Kubuntu also.

I reverted manually to nvidia 295.20 and Unity 3D was useable, but there will still issues as 3D games would be unusable. Prior to the update both games and Unity 3D worked.
