MBR deleted after 6.10->7.04 upgrade

Bug Description

I am dual-booting XP and Ubuntu, with ntloader first and grub on Ubuntu's partition. Upgrade process failed at package "firestarter" (see bug #98582), with the message "your system might be in an inconsistent state" (don't know if this is related). After reboot, the MBR was invalid and the system couldn't boot at all.
Steps needed to repair:
#1 Panic.
#2 Boot from the XP CD, select "repair using recovery console".
#3 Run "fixmbr".
Both XP and Ubuntu load fine afterwards.
