Screen saver crashes session

Bug Description

Using Cpq Deskpro EN, with PCI Voodoo 3dFX card, 3d not enabled. However, if one opens the screen saver applet, and then accidentally chooses a 3d or openGL screen saver, just the function of displaying in the example window crashes the GDI session. When you return, just opening the applet causes the crash, because the offending example wants to run again. The selection does not go back to "none" after a GDI crash. So, I can now not select any screen saver via the Gnome session.

This would be a nice feature.

The crash looks like an xorg or video driver bug

rrussak: try installing libglide3. Does it crash then? (you need to restart X first)

I have now installed the release version, will have to
test shortly. I beleive it is not crashing, but let
me verify.

Confirmed, this is the solution. 3d screen savers no
longer crash the session. Thanks!

If bug #44115 has resolved this should work "out of the box"
