Bug Description

Binary package hint: wine

Feisty Fawn Beta

In Edgy, one could double click EXE files directly from the desktop and they were started in Wine. In Feisty, this doesn't work anymore. Looks like Gnome application handler is missing.

You can launch applications normally from terminal with Wine command.

Thanks for the report. However, this is an intentional change in the .desktop file configurations for wine, since it has serious security implications. Please see bug 85338 for more details.

Changed in wine:

I should also note that the correct way to handle this is to make sure your Wine applications have the execute bit set, in which case double-clicking on them will work correctly again.

  sudo chmod a+x /path/to/your/application.exe

Obviously, only do this for applications that you trust. :)

I set up x for everyone. Now double click gives an error dialog (attached).

I am not sure whether Edgy did some magic with permissions, since I don't recall settings +x for .exes.
