Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20

No sound with kernel 2.6.20-13 generic on Asrock motherboard K8NF6G-VSTA (NVIDIA chipset NF-6100-405) with Sempron64 2800+.

Sound had been present in 2.6.20-10, and was lost in -11, -12, and -13. Amarok is "playing" (judged by the visuals), but no sound coming out.

Requested info is attached below,
.
I did a complete re-install on a new disk with the Feisty-beta and did all updates. All left at defaults. There is still no sound.

Knoppix 5.2 does give sound when booted from CD on this machine (but has no x-server :-\). if you need any info from Knoppix, please advise.

cat /etc/asound.conf ~/.asoundrc* resulted in 2 x "File or directory not found"

Note that I had sound with the 2.6.20-10-generic kernel, and not any more from -11 onwards. One difference that I found were the audio devices used:

-10: (with sound)
 Audio devices: HDA Generic
 Mixers: Realtek ID862

-11, -12,-13: (no sound)
 Audio devices: ALC861VD Analog (Duplex)
 Mixers: Realtek ALC861VD

Hope it helps!

commit 89ac4064503deed91a6bad15d9a9eeb2c9272afd
Author: Daniel Chen <email address hidden>
Date: Tue Apr 3 15:47:51 2007 -0400

UBUNTU: sound/pci/hda/: Add missing SSID for ALC861-VD (patch_realtek.c)

Status: Not yet merged in upstream alsa-kernel hg

This commit for Feisty adds an SSID to the ALC861-VD cfg_tbl[].
Apparently the vendor and system IDs were used erroneously
instead of the subvendor and subsystem IDs.

    Confirmed in #alsa/Freenode by Sebastiano.

still no sound in kernel 2.6.20-15-generic

if I understand the announcements correctly, then this is the release candidate? Isn't someone concerned about releasing this apparently simple fix?

Feisty will /not/ release with the above fix. I've stated numerous times that a feisty-updates kernel will contain this fix.
