Bug Description

None of the configuration modes for alsa listed for ALC269 (i.e. laptop-dmic, laptop-amic) worked. The sound is barely noticeable. Internal speakers work about fine.

Everything was working under oneiric.

I can confirm it working under oneiric. Under precise, in alsamixer you can notice following:

With headphones disconnected Speaker level is automatically set to 100:

When connecting headphones Speaker level is automatically set to 0 and muted. Headphone volume control is unavailable:

Increasing volume of Speaker (while muted) increases volume in connected headphones (laptop speakers remain muted):

Thanks, this is working for me. I can live with that until a fix is found.

Is there anything else than using alsamixer that can be done to work around the problem? alsa configuration perhaps?

Well, I guess if a valid alsa configuration solved the problem it
wouldn't be a bug at all. I did tried predefined configurations but but
did not go much into details of fine tuning, so I don't know.

Re #3: I encounter the same exact behaviour on a freshly acquired Samsung Chronos 7 700Z5C, on a freshly burnt 12.04 amd64 iso install. Aumix seems to be the only way out of this for me as well, and I do see, as you, the speaker volume being muted.

However, I'd like to add that plugging the headphones again does not cure the problem. While it restores the headphones' volume to their previous level, speaker volume will remain muted, and then only aumix can help -- which needs snx-mixer-oss to be modprobed, BTW.

I was also encountering this issue on a Samsung 550P5C with 12.04.
@AdrianOlek Thanks for the workaround, didn't think to check that.
