Update manager fails with an error

Bug Description
Whenever I try to run Update manager the following error pops out: Error! E: Encountered a section with no Package: header E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/
After this a lot of erroes pops out as "internal error" and "Software Center closed unexpectedly".This error started after I removed the unity global menu by this command: sudo apt-get remove indicator-appmenu.
I dont know this has any relation to the current problem.

Problem solved.I removed the repository entry for the given package and now it runs well. An applet had shown when the error came,I used that applet to open synaptic and removed the entry.
