In my opinion the best solutions is giving to both sides. For ease of usability, by *default* the behavior of the grid plugin should use only half of the screen. However, this can reverted to the old behavior (1/2, 1/3, 1/4) using the grid plugin configuration panel via ccsm. New users get a less confusing experience, and more experience users can still setup their systems for maximum productivity.
