Open Office Documents in "Recent Documents" Menu do not work

Bug Description

This occurs in Dapper Beta. If I open a .odt file, it shows up in the 'recent documents' menu. When I go to that menu and choose that file, I get a message saying "Could not find suitable application".

Opening other kinds of documents this way works just fine.

Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'openoffice'; however, that package was not published in Ubuntu.

Unable to replicate bug in Dapper Beta.

- Started OOo2 Writer
- Created new .odt file and saved out.
- Opened successfully via Places->Recent Documents

It happened in dapper flights, the same is in dapper official.
I have the same problem: some documents are properly recognized, others aren't.

This is .recently-used entry for the file that doesn't open:

Tested in Dapper release, does not exist for sample documents. Confirm that this is still an issue?

This may have to do with ODF documents that have been created by conversion from another format. I copied the contents of an offending .ods spreadsheet to a new blank .ods file and this file opened from Ubuntu's Recent Documents with no problem.

I am seeing this effect when I attempt to open GIMP xcf files from the "Recent Documents" menu.

A dialog pops up and states "Could not open recently used document "file:///home/<me>/Picutures/<file name>.xcf"

Such files open OK if opened from Nautilus or the application itself.

I've noticed that right-clicking the file reveals a MIME type of image/x-xcf, whereas the .recently-used.xbel file has it as image/xcf (no x-).

This was observed with Gutsy.
