starting new x-session (kdm) hangs Thinkpad

Bug Description

Switching user - new session with kdm hangs IBM thinkpad (completely)
Need to hard reset with power button for 4 secs...

Seems fine in later versions... (Something changed cause it's working...) I also Re-installed Dapper the other day. So can provide more info. Runing IBM T41. Maybe ATI driver updates fixed this ?

Interesting... I started another session now... then switched back @ login screen with logging in...
New session dies and shows me the boot splash... had to Alt F7 to get back to this msg....
