Bug Description

When the system is running with Ubuntu and Gnome, in the computer:/// nautilus shows only one DVD burner icon.

If I connect one DVD burner and one DVD player, both are present in the computer:///

In fact someone has the problem, and I've tried to reproduce it. Apparently it is related to how gnome see the dvd/cd player/recorder. But I don't know who is responsible of this. May be gnome-volume-manager or whatever.

Anyway the system is able to mount both DVD burner so it really must be related to gnome.

More information on this latter.

I just tried with two DVD players. The behavior is not quite different, and the bug appears aswell.

When the system is first started, the Nautilus computer:/// shows _only one_ of two DVD players/burner. No matter where they are physically connected to, I tried with hda / hdc, hdc/hdd, hda/hdb and nothing changes.

Now say you inserted something into each of both burners/players. Magically one more icon appears and you have both.

Then you umount everything. And it has only one now.

But the strange behavior is ahead. Insert a DVD into one of your both DVD players/burners. The icon show a mounted dvd.

Eject it, the icon becomes unmounted. And insert it into the other DVD player/burner. The icon is now mounted too.

So the icon represents both DVD players/burners. Strange isn't it ?

Both are working well, but nautilus bug. Anyway I don't think it is nautilus related, may be udev ?

Here is some output with two DVD players.

$ udevinfo -q path -n cdrom
/block/hdd
$ udevinfo -q path -n dvd
/block/hdd
$ udevinfo -V
udevinfo, version 079

$ ls /dev/cdrom -l
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2006-08-25 00:59 /dev/cdrom -> hdc
$ ls /dev/dvd -l
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2006-08-25 00:59 /dev/dvd -> hdc

I tried to add a new link /dev/cdrom1 to hdd, also tried to add something in the /etc/fstab. And as it appears that both links to /dev/hdc, I tried to make cdrom point to hdd, but again nothing has changed.

Some screenshots to see what happen first:

Then you insert two DVD in each DVD players/burners:

Now only with two DVD players sometimes when you umount both, they stay there. But anyway they disappear after a reboot.
