Bug Description
Hi,
I think that for mantain ubuntu distribution more traslated than now it could be useful to offer the possibility of translate applications by desktop users.
Now we have the possibility of translate applications via link in Help menu in the applications, that launch a browser pointing launchpad, then user has to register or login and translate it
I think it's good but there are several disadvantages:
1) Only the most "curious" users accesses to help menu and "translate this app" item
2) The process is a little bit slow
3) Is for each application
I think that these difficults could be solved if the way users translate applications are more direct and fast. I think about gnome (/gtk) panel applet that user could add (as many other gnome panel applets) and directly could translate many applications it want
This translator applet could works as follows:
1) Users choose what he/she wants to translate (fuzzy translations, all translations, ...; original language: english and translated language: catalan; etc) and when she/he wants to translate (each day, each session, where not translated phrase appears, ...)
2) Optionally user could provide an identify (email, name, ...)
(1) and (2) are in the options dialog
3) Every time user wants to translate, in this applet appears a text to translate, original and final language and an input for type the translation
When he/she presses the ok button, the data sends to launchpad and then we have another text translated
Perhaps translations done by this way should be marked as fuzzy, but this overpasses the scope of this bug. A specification should be create.
I'm just a ubuntu desktop user so I can't help you in tech details of this bug but I created to with the purpose of helping community
Thanks,
Xan.
xan, Thanks for your idea, however I'm going to reject this as a bug because it is a large feature to complete. I encourage you to submit your idea as a specification, where it will have a higher possibility of being implemented
You can create a new specification at https:/ /launchpad. net/distros/ ubuntu/ +specs. I advise you to read https:/ /wiki.ubuntu. com/FeatureSpec ifications first, which has details on specification writing.
